Private Digital Landscape Photography Workshops

A special note on private workshops during the covid-19 pandemic.

Recommendations from the CDC on covid precautions for private workshops are evolving rapidly. All 2022 workshops will be conducted in accordance with current CDC recommendations and local, state, and federal mandates. I strongly encourage all students to get vaccinated if they aren't already. Unvaccinated students will be asked to wear a mask during indoor sessions and will not carpool with me or other students. If the pandemic worsens again and makes it impossible to conduct a private workshop safely, I will refund all money paid.

Get the personal attention you deserve! I offer private workshops on all aspects of daytime and nighttime digital landscape photography. These sessions can include guided photography sessions in Rocky Mountain National Park, portfolio reviews both in-person and online, and advice on turning pro. I also offer instruction on using Lightroom and Photoshop to optimize landscape photographs and prepare them for printing on your inkjet printer or at a service bureau. I customize the length and content of each workshop to be as helpful as possible to each student. Only you and the people you invite will attend your workshop. Unlike many instructors, I never shoot my own photos during your workshop. My attention is devoted solely to helping you make the best possible images.

I carry full liability insurance and have obtained the necessary permit to operate in Rocky Mountain National Park. I have been photographing professionally in Rocky Mountain National Park since 1993, so I know the area intimately and can lead you directly to the most photogenic locations. All private workshop students booking half-day or longer workshops receive a free copy of Mastering Dramatic Light, my profusely illustrated, 41-page PDF on how to capture great images in high-contrast light. I also provide handouts specific to the topics covered during the workshop. All workshops that include field time in Rocky Mountain National Park must be at least four hours in length.

Private workshops cost $85 per hour with a one-hour minimum. A four-hour workshop costs $340. A six-hour workshop costs $475. An eight-hour workshop costs $595. Each additional photographer-participant costs $45 per hour for a one- to three-hour workshop. Each additional photographer-participant costs $195 (total) for a four-hour workshop, $245 (total) for a six-hour workshop and $295 (total) for an eight-hour workshop.

Photography students are welcome to bring along a companion who is not a photographer and who does not participate in the photographic instruction. A participating non-photographer costs $75 for a four-hour workshop, $85 for a six-hour workshop, and $95 for an eight-hour workshop.

Many students booking eight-hour workshops split the workshop into two parts, a sunset shoot one evening followed by a sunrise shoot the next morning. This option costs an additional $200 (total of $795 for one). Private workshops are limited to four students. Please contact me for a quote on teaching a larger group.

A deposit of 25 percent of the workshop fee is required to reserve your time. The deposit is refundable up to 30 days before the start of your workshop if you need to cancel. Deposits are not refundable if the cancellation occurs within 30 days of the start of your workshop. Your workshop can be rescheduled at no additional charge unless the workshop involves an overnight stay in Estes Park or elsewhere and the rescheduling takes place too late to cancel the hotel room without paying a cancellation fee to the hotel. The balance is due on the date of your workshop. If your workshop will take place in Rocky Mountain National Park, you will be required either to pay a $15 entrance fee per person or to present a valid park pass (seven-day entrance pass, Rocky Mountain National Park annual pass, or other pass valid for entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park). All students booking field sessions are required to sign an acknowledgment of risk form. Billable workshop time begins when I meet with students in Estes Park or elsewhere. I don't bill for travel time from my home in Boulder to Estes Park or another meeting location.

For more information or to book your private workshop, please call 303 499-3009 or email me. I look forward to helping you reach your photographic goals!
