One of the delights of living in Colorado is watching the seasons change. In April, the glittering
ice and snow of winter slowly begins to melt into the warm greens of spring. Summer in the high mountains
brings the peak of the alpine wildflower bloom. Autumn comes early to the high country, with golden aspen
leaves visible even before the calendar reaches September 21, the official beginning of fall. The first snow
often dusts the peaks in late summer, then deepens as the last leaves flutter to the ground and winter arrives again with
its forbidding beauty.
To create my Four Seasons portfolio, I first selected four iconic Colorado locations: the Flatirons,
just outside Boulder; 14,259-foot Longs Peak, the highest mountain in Rocky Mountain National Park; Bear Lake, one of the
most beautiful and frequently visited destinations in Rocky Mountain National Park; and the famous Maroon Bells, just
outside the glitzy resort town of Aspen. Then I photographed each location repeatedly in every season of
the year and selected the most spectacular and representative images.
